We combine a variety of relevant professional backgrounds and skills, from industry, accountancy, strategy consulting and investment banking. Our Management Board has worked together for over 15 years.
Over the past few years, we have been steadily increasing the number of investment professionals and will continue to recruit talented executives to complement the existing team.
Chairman of the Management Board
Rod joined Graphite Capital in 1986. In 2001 he led the management buy-out of Graphite Capital from the Foreign & Colonial Group.
He previously worked for McKinsey & Co and for Bell & Howell Limited. He has a first class degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University and an MBA with distinction from INSEAD.
Senior Partner – Head of Investor Relations
Stephen is responsible for fundraising and investor relations, having previously led transactions on the investment team.
Prior to joining Graphite Capital in 1993, he worked at Baring Brothers and Barclays Bank. He has a degree in English and French Law from the University of Kent and an MBA with distinction from Warwick Business School.

Simon is joint head of Graphite Capital’s investment team. Before joining Graphite Capital in 1992, Simon worked on equity and mezzanine transactions at Hill Samuel Development Capital. Prior to that he was a management consultant for L.E.K. Consulting. He has a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University.

Andy is joint head of Graphite Capital’s investment team. He is also responsible for recruitment.
Prior to joining the business in 1992, he worked in private equity for Morgan Grenfell Development Capital. He has a first class degree in Economics from Stirling University and an MBA from Warwick Business School.
Mike joined Graphite Capital in 2005. He has led and structured a variety of investments, with a particular focus on the energy and leisure sectors.
After starting his career as a solicitor with Clifford Chance, he founded an internet-based legal recruitment consultancy before joining the Bank of Scotland’s Integrated Finance team. He has a first class degree in Mediaeval History from St. Andrews University and an MBA from London Business School.
Mark joined Graphite Capital in 2001. He has led and structured a variety of transactions across different sectors, with a particular focus on healthcare and financial services.
He previously worked at OC&C Strategy Consultants, Tilda Rice and also started an internet software company. He has a degree in Modern History from Oxford University and an MBA from INSEAD.
Member of the Management Board
Markus has led and structured a variety of transactions since joining Graphite Capital in 1997, including several in the retail and support services sectors. In addition, he oversees Graphite’s portfolio and finance functions and is responsible for the firm’s marketing activities.
He started his career as a management consultant with Bain & Company where he worked in Paris and London. He has a Business degree from HEC Paris and an MBA with distinction from Oxford University.
Jeremy is responsible for a number of portfolio companies, having previously been a member of Graphite Capital’s investment team.
Before joining Graphite in 1998, he worked for Morgan Grenfell Development Capital, which he joined as a director on its formation in 1990, and for 3i and Close Brothers. He has a degree in classics from Oxford University and a first class degree in politics, philosophy and history from London.
Jenny has led and structured a variety of transactions across a range of sectors and now focuses on managing a number of portfolio companies.
Before joining Graphite Capital in 1999, she worked for J. Henry Schroder & Co. in the corporate finance department. Her earlier career was spent in industry, first with Pitney Bowes and then with Boral UK. She has a degree in Modern History from Oxford University and an MBA from the Open University Business School.
John joined Graphite Capital in 2002. He has led and structured a number of transactions in a variety of sectors, with a particular focus on the industrial and technology sectors.
He previously worked in corporate finance at Hawkpoint Partners and Antfactory, an internet investment business. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte & Touche and holds Business and Accounting degrees from University College, Dublin.
Kane joined Graphite Capital in 2007 from Terra Firma Capital Partners. He has worked on a broad spectrum of transactions, including in the TMT, industrials and energy sectors.
Kane started his career as a commercial lawyer before working as an investment banker in Merrill Lynch’s M&A and TMT teams. He has a first class degree in Law from Bond University, Australia, and an MBA from INSEAD.
Mark has led and structured a variety of transactions since joining Graphite Capital in 2008, with a particular focus on the support services and healthcare sectors.
He started his career with JP Morgan, first in London and then in Sydney, before joining Gresham Private Equity in Sydney and then Lyceum Capital in London. Mark has a degree in Economics and History from Durham University and an MBA from Yale University.
Omar joined Graphite Capital in 2008 and has worked on a variety of transactions, with a particular focus on the retail, leisure and financial services sectors.
Previously he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Financial Institutions Group, where he provided corporate finance advice in the financial services sector. Omar is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a degree in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics.
Rachael joined Graphite Capital in 2009 and has worked on a variety of transactions, with a particular focus on the healthcare sector.
Previously she was an Investment Associate at Cognetas, a private equity firm. She started her career at L.E.K. Consulting, in London and then in Sydney, working on private equity due diligence, corporate M&A and post-transactional strategy implementation across a wide range of sectors and geographies. Rachael holds a first class degree in History and French from the University of Durham.
Simon joined Graphite Capital in 2010.
Previously he was with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Business Recovery Services division where he advised distressed institutions in the manufacturing, distribution and public health sectors. Simon is a Chartered Accountant and holds a first class degree in Mathematics from the University of Bath.
Partner - Portfolio Management
Mudassir joined Graphite Capital in 2006. He is responsible for analytical and technical financial support for both portfolio companies and new investments under consideration.
Previously Mudassir spent 12 years with KPMG, where he was leading due diligence assignments in consumer markets. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG and holds an Economics degree from the University of Salford.
Partner - Portfolio Management
James joined Graphite Capital in 2002 and is responsible for the monitoring of existing investments and for implementing best practice across Graphite’s entire investment portfolio.
Previously he spent four years at RSM Robson Rhodes, where he audited clients in a variety of industry sectors. James qualified as a Chartered Accountant with RSM Robson Rhodes and holds a degree in Politics from the University of York. He has been a member of the BVCA Tax Committee since 2010.
Emma joined Graphite Capital in 2004 and is head of the fund investment team. Previously she worked for Merrill Lynch's private equity fund-of-funds team.
She has direct equity and mezzanine investing experience from Morgan Grenfell Private Equity and Royal Bank of Scotland. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand and holds a first class degree in Economics and Politics from Bristol University.
Alan joined Graphite Capital in 2007 as the financial controller for all Graphite Limited Partnership funds. He also plays a significant role in the Investor Relations function and provides support to the investment team.
Previously Alan worked for seven years in Audit at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He holds a degree in Business Studies from the University of Hertfordshire.
Denise joined Graphite Capital in 2008 as a Fund Accountant and in 2012 moved to a Portfolio Management role as Portfolio Manager assisting with the monitoring of existing investments and providing support to the Investor Relations function and investment team.
Previously she spent seven years in Audit at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she qualified as a Chartered Accountant. She holds a degree in Commerce and Accountancy from the University of Malta.
Colm joined Graphite Capital in 2010, initially as a Senior Financial Controller before assuming his current role. Previously he had spent three years with Terra Firma Capital Partners as a finance executive and prior to that worked for the financial services audit group at Deloitte.
Colm is a Chartered Accountant and a CFA Charterholder. He has a degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.
Andrea joined Graphite Capital in 2011 as an investment manager in the fund investment team. Most recently, she worked for Auda Alternative Investments in the private equity fund-of-funds and secondaries team.
Prior to that, she spent four years at Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital in the equity capital markets team in New York. She holds an MBA from INSEAD and an undergraduate degree in Finance and Entrepreneurship from Babson College.
